Our relationship with your child starts at birth. We will visit your newborn daily in the hospital and address any concerns you may have. If you choose to have your male infant circumcised, our pediatricians are trained in providing this service with minimal discomfort to the child. Just tell your baby's nurse and we'll be happy to talk with you further about the procedure.
Shannon Keely, RN, BSN, IBCLC is a certified lactation consultant who is available to meet with our patients at both offices in order to provide intensive help with issues related to nursing and breast-feeding. Call (910) 392-5634 to arrange an appointment.
WELLNESS EXAMS AND IMMUNIZATIONS
Routine wellness exams are an opportunity not only to protect children with immunizations, but to see how they're growing and developing and to attend to their home, school and social environments. In accordance with American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines, we schedule the following wellness exams:
- 1-2 days after newborns are discharged from the hospital
- 2 weeks
- 2 months
- 4 months
- 6 months
- 9 months
- 12 months
- 15 months
- 18 months
- 2 years
- 3 years
- 4 years
- 5 years
Every child should have a routine exam annually from age 2 to age 21. We also do sports pre-participation physical exams and preoperative consultations. All health maintenance visits include patient and family medical history, social and developmental history, physical exam of all body systems, height, weight, and head circumference (if 36 months or under).
RECOMMENDED IMMUNIZATION SCHEDULE
As pediatricians, we feel there are few things more important than appropriate immunization to protect children from disease. We strongly recommend that children receive their vaccines on time. Our providers are well versed in the controversies surrounding vaccination and we'll be happy to discuss any concerns you may have, as well as provide you reliable resources for information. We give vaccines at the following times:

Complex Inherited or Acquired Conditions: All our physicians are comfortable with the unique problems that affect children with complex or rare illnesses, and we have close relationships with pediatric specialists at UNC, Duke, ECU and Levine Children's.
ADHD and Other Developmental Problems: Dr. Ross Williams specializes in the care of developmental issues like ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, and learning disabilities.
Adolescent and Women's Health: Diane Parker and Beth Deaton both have extensive experience treating teens at Wilmington Health Access for Teens, and all our providers are comfortable with women's and teens' health issues. We accommodate children and teens who prefer to have their scheduled exams with same-sex providers.
ACUTE ILLNESSES AND MINOR INJURIES
We see acutely ill patients all day long, but we do ask that you call ahead so we can find you a convenient appointment time. We are happy to evaluate your child urgently for lacerations and other minor injuries. We are often able to address these issues in our office. For more complex injuries, we will make sure your child is seen by the appropriate specialist.
